How to Make Money With Affiliate Programs

Posted by Matt Helphrey | Articles, Internet Based Affiliate Marketing, home based business | Wednesday 26 March 2008 8:37 pm

Many people are starting to move to the internet to make money. It is a great idea considering the average home based business pulls in a nice $52,000 a year! Sadly though, many people do fail without giving it a real legitimate shot. For beginners, making money with affiliate programs may be your best shot to succeed.

Some affiliate programs offer great incentives to promote their company or product. If you are a current website owner and are receiving traffic on a consistent basis, promoting and making money from affiliate programs will be much easier than someone starting from scratch. All you will have to do is simply plug in the banners or text ads right into your site and hope the traffic takes your bait.

PIPS Poll Reviewed 3/19/08

Posted by Matt Helphrey | PIPS polls | Wednesday 19 March 2008 4:29 pm

To date we have had 24 members take the short survey, far less than I had hoped but enough to take a glance and review the results to date. I will try to analyze each question individually, then take a look at the results as a whole. Please feel free to comment again here on anything that caught your attention or that I neglected to report.

How satisfied are you with the PIPS program overall?

I like this question because I think it does a good job of gauging customer loyalty. 3 rated the program a 5, 11 rated it a 4, 8 a 3, 2 a 2, and 0 1’s. The average or mean was 3.625 out of 5.

3.625 means PIPS customers are somewhat satisfied but that number could definitely be higher. It still shows that the majority of surveyors are pleased with the program and Im sure most newbies would be a little reluctant to rate it high before making a dime with the program.

What program do you have the most referrals or the largest down line in?

The winner for the most referrals goes to…SFI!! Overwhelmingly dominant in the referral department, SFI had over 58% of the respondents saying they had most of their referrals through them. That’s 14 out of the 24 people who responded. 5 had no referrals at all, 1 each in Traffic Swarm, Host4Profit, Leisure Audio Books, and Success U. 1 person also has the same amount in 2 or more programs and no one has the most referrals in Empowerism or RFS.

SFI is a great program and I know many PIPS members first start there so it only makes sense that they would promote SFI more. Also Jeff Casmers co-op is another reason why SFI is top dog.

Are you a member of RFS? If not do you plan to fully enroll within the next three months?

18 out of 24 said that they are not a member and do not plan to enroll within the next three months. 3 others said they are currently a paid member, and the 3 remaining said they plan on enrolling in the next three months.

The reason I asked this and the next question is because I was interested on how many people were enrolling in the higher priced programs. Not a whole bunch did, only 3, and Im guessing those three are already making money with other programs and/or can afford the high fees associated with RFS. I think most people who come into PIPS are looking for ways to make money because they don’t have money. This result did not surprise me at all.

Are you a member of Success University? If not, do you plan to enroll within the next three months?

12 said they are not and will not enrol within the next three months. 11 are currently enrolled and 1 said he/she would enroll within the next three months.

This program is cheaper that RFS so I expected to see more people signed up. Still the majority of folks said they wouldn’t sign up anytime soon. For most of us, to enroll in a program, we want to make sure it will be worth the cost and we will be able to make money with our investment. SU has great income potential but newbies have to focus on traffic first, then upgrade later.

Are you a member of Empowerism? If not, do you plan to enroll within the next three months?

15 members said they are currently signed up, 7 said they are not and do not plan to enroll in the next three months, and the other 2 said they plan on enrolling sometime within the next three months.

I expected this much. A cheaper program than both RFS and SU so that would explain the higher enrollment %.

For the last 5 questions we had 22 people respond. I’m sure it was just an innocent mistake by the other 2 not seeing there was an extra page of the survey. Here are the results for that page…

What type of promoting efforts are you using to promote your website?

95.5% of all respondents use some form of blogging to promote their website. 81.8% use article marketing, 72.7% use forums, 59.1% use paid or free classified ads, 31.8% use ezines, 22.7% use pay per click, 22.7% use other methods which include co op adverts, directories, traffic exchanges, contextual advertising, and social sites.

It’s nice to see members so diversified with their promoting efforts. I’m a little surprised that not all blog and not all write articles, two cheap, easy and effective methods.

How much traffic are you receiving on a daily basis? Just an average. Counting unique VISITORS only. Not hits!

22.7% are receiving between 51-75 visitors a day and another 22.7% are getting more than 500 a day! 13.6% are receiving between 0-25 and another 13.6% have 26-50 a day. 9.1% get 301-400 visitors, and 1 person answered in each of the following: 76-100, 101-150, 151-200, and 401-500.

How much are you spending per month for advertising and program fees?

36.4% are spending between $101-200. 22.7% are spending $76-100. 18.2% are spending $201-300. One person or 4.5% in each of the following: $0-25, 26-50, 51-75, 500-1000, and more than $1000.

Roughly, how much monthly income are you making with all of the PIPS programs?

36.4% or 8 who responded are making anywhere from $0-25 a month. 13.6%/3 are making $301-500. There are 2 or 9.1% of the respondents in each of the following income categories: $76-100, 101-200, 501-1000, 1001-3000. There was 1 person who answered in the following categories: $26-50, 51-75, $201-300. No one who participated is making over $3000 a month.

How long have you been a member of the PIPS program?

27.3% who answered said they have been a member 4-6 months and another 27.3% said 1-2 years. 18.2% 1-3 months, 13.6% 6 months to a year, and 4.5% or 1 person in each of the following: less than a month, 2-3 years, 3 years or longer.

Analysis:

What I compile from this information on the last page is that a majority of the respondents are fairly new to PIPS, spend a lot of money, and aren’t making much in return. 14 out of 22 people are spending more that $100 a month and only 10 out of 22 are making their money back or are making money in return.

Stone’s remark about 500 visitors a day = $5000 a month is a bit dispelled from what I gather from this survey. Not one person is making over $3000 a month, yet a good percentage are receiving over 500 unique visitors a month. I’m not sure if people included guaranteed visitors or paid visitors in their total, that may throw those numbers off a bit. Although I know it takes time to receive a good amount of traffic and we did have 8 respondents who have been with the program longer than a year and only 5 who said they were getting more than 500 visitors a day.

The main thing I would take from this, and a huge note to newbies, use cheaper or free methods to promote your site. Blogging, writing articles, participating in forums, and marketing to your own ezine are very effective and cheap methods to use. Do not get yourself locked into a bunch of monthly fees when first starting out. You can always upgrade or add on later. If you absolutely have to spend money, spend it on things that will help you get back links and set your business up to receive free, very high targeted traffic from the search engines.

It’s been a real pleasure gathering and providing this information and I’m going to leave the survey open for additional responses and can keep everyone updated with the results. So if you haven’t taken the survey, it’s never too late. Go now… Click here to take the survey

Search Engine Optimization

Posted by Matt Helphrey | home based business, make money online tips, search engine optimization | Friday 14 March 2008 8:35 pm

Search Engine Optimization is also something that may be overlooked by many, especially those brand new to operating a website.

What SEOing does is gives your website presence on the internet. Without it, your home based business would only receive visitors or traffic from the links you have pointing back to your site from all over the internet. With it, you will get loads of free traffic from the search engines, and this is the type of traffic you want to your site, people who are specifically typing in your keywords, and you giving them the exact information they were searching for.

Step 1 for SEO: Take your selected keywords that we covered yesterday and place them right in the title of your web page. Include only your keywords!

Step 2: Add <h1> header tags with your keywords in the body of your text. It will be more optimal for you to add them as far to the top and left of the page as possible. If you’re not sure how to do this or change the title for that matter, it is necessary to know at least a little html code. It’s real simple, so don’t be scared to learn.

Step 3: Bold and italicize your keywords throughout the text of your web page. You want to include your keywords in about 1-3% of your total text. That number works best according to all the research I have done. Any more will be considered spam and junk to the web crawlers, any less they may be looked over.

Step 4: Include your keywords in some of your alt image tags for several pictures on your web page.

Step 5: Add your keywords at the very bottom of your website after your copyright sig.

Step 6: Put out as many quality back links as you can and have those links anchored with your keywords. For example, if I leave a comment on someones blog and my keywords are “real online money making opportunities”, I want those words to be the ‘clickable’ variety. i.e real online money making opportunities.

That’s it! The more back links you have, the higher your site will rank in the engines for your selected keywords, so get your site set up and get busy putting those links out there.

The Importance of Keywords

Posted by Matt Helphrey | home based business, make money online tips | Thursday 13 March 2008 5:37 pm

It is not stressed enough how important keywords can be to making or breaking your home based business. Before you set up your money making website, you need to stop for a moment and do some research to find attainable and profitable keywords that will bring you free traffic from the search engines.

Perfecting the ‘keyword’ strategy may be the most important thing you ever do for promotion efforts. Whenever you promote your home based business through blog posts, article writing, press releases, whatever it is, you need to consider the words you use. The search engines will pick up on these words and people will find your site through the search engines.

When selecting your keywords it is important to consider that these words are pertinent to your business and are not too competitive in nature but still gets a decent number of searches per day. Very few people look at the search results beyond page 2 so you want to find words that will be possible for you to get to page one on the search engines. There is no way a new website can rank on page one for keywords like “work from home” or “make money online.” Find long tail keywords that you can rank high with. For example, instead of “make money online” try “easy ways to make money online using affiliate programs” or “proven strategies that work to make money online.” Catch the drift?

Once you rank on page 1 for your keywords you can move up and try more competitive keywords that will get you more traffic. It is important to get to page one first so you can benefit from some free traffic.

How to Make Income on the Internet Using Affiliate Programs

Most of us have heard or read about people making a fortune for themselves doing no more than starting up a couple of websites. While these stories seem far fetched and impossible to accomplish, it is more than possible for anyone to make income online without ever having to sell a product for themselves.

This may sound hard to accomplish and difficult to achieve, but there are plenty of people who are earning income online 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. Affiliate programs allow us to market their products to the entire world and pay us commissions for sales or referrals to their programs.

Since the internet has expanded to its enormous size world wide and is growing in popularity still, affiliate programs are allowing web owners and marketers to earn a substantial income online. Making money using affiliate programs is not as hard as it may seem, but it will take a good amount of tedious effort and focus to be successful.

To start earning an income online using affiliate programs, there are a couple of different options. We’ll cover two options here.

First of all, using an existing website. If you are currently using a website for any reason and at least have a substantial amount of consistent traffic, you can take that website and make it a money maker with affiliate programs. Look for an affiliate program that matches the content of the site. For example, if you have a website that discusses various aspect of movies and movie plots, search for an affiliate program that sells videos. There are plenty of different affiliate programs that match thousands of niches, so the odds are good for finding one that fits your needs.

It is crucial to find an affiliate program that fits well with the theme of your site. You do not want a program that completely takes away and detracts from your site.

If you are starting new and building your own site, you can either find affiliate programs first and then tailor your site around the program or programs you select, or you can select a niche, build a site, then find relevant programs that fit that site.

Starting new and building traffic will take time so you have to remain patient but persistent with your efforts. It is key to build your website with fresh unique content and content that will have your visitors not only interested in what you have to offer, but what the affiliate programs offer as well. You want to build your website so your visitors will want to click on the affiliate links and visit their links as well as yours.

It is important to keep in mind that you don’t want the affiliate links to direct sell them the product. This is crucial. The sales page for the affiliate should subtlety inform them and then sell the product. If your visitor sees the price right away, it may scare them off. Inform and make them think they need the product before selling it to them.

Adding fresh content consistently will bring traffic over time and really anyone who applies consistent effort can make an income online.

Simple Work From Home Opportunity

In this day in age is there really anything that is simple? Everything is so complex and so technical. We need an instruction manual to run our t.v and we need an instruction manual to run the remote for the t.v.. The instruction manuals themselves are getting to the point where they need instruction manuals.

The internet does offer all the information we can ask for and that is a definite plus for those looking to the internet to start a home based business. Simple work from home opportunities are rampant across the internet today. All you have to do is type “make money online” or “work from home” in the search engines and your likely to get a plethora of web sites all jockeying for the pole position to give you their version of how to use the internet to make you rich.

Well, most likely you are not going to get rich using the internet. However there remains the slight chance that a very few percentage of us will get rich working from home using the internet. Most likely, a couple of the web masters at the top of the list for the aforementioned keywords probably are rich. What it takes is hard work and dedication. To be one of the 3% who make a living online working from home is not a simple task at all.

So what does it take? Where do I start?

For starters, a website with a reputable host is highly recommended. Then a few products or information to sell wouldn’t hurt. Of course not everyone has any products or information to sell. No problemo! You can make money from affiliate programs!

This is probably the simplest path there is to working from home and using the internet to make money. Affiliate programs offer commissions for referrals and sales and if you utilize a handful of the best affiliate programs around, you have a chance to earn a very nice residual income.

The simplest work from home opportunity I have found is offered by Stone Evans. He and his crew do all the work for you, all you have to do is promote the programs and the website he sets up for you. The training and tools you need to succeed are all provided. It’s how I started and would recommend it to anyone.
