Develop a Link Building Strategy

I have talked plenty about the importance of back links and how back links are so important in increasing traffic to your blog or website. The more back links you have, the higher you will rank in the search engines for your keywords. And just to set the record straight, PageRank and search engine rank DOES NOT rely solely on the NUMBER of back links. The number of back links is just one factor of many that Google uses to rank your website/blog.
Google also takes into fact the age of your domain (older domains tend to rank higher ), where you back links are coming from (high PR websites give more link juice as well as websites that are of the same niche as yours), and how often you are getting back links. Those are just a few of the factors that Google uses. Im sure there are plenty of more factors that Im not thinking of but the truth is, there are probably only a handful of people in the entire world that truly know the Google algorithm that ranks websites.
With that in mind, it is up to you to develop some kind of link building strategy so you can build your back links up. People use different methods and different strategies to build their back links and there is no “right” way to do this. The only right way is just to do it early and do it often. One of mentors often says 10 a day. After 30 days you’ll have 300, after a year 3600, 5 years 18000!
Thats one way to do it and honestly I think that would be the standard rate at which a website picks up back links. However, in this day in age, and with competition so fierce in many niches (especially this niche), we look to get as many back links as possible so we can constantly rank above our competition.
You used to be able to buy back links or pick back links up by spamming. Not anymore. Google catches on quick and has made internet marketers rethink their link building strategies. Up to this point I would say that my link building strategy was the typical 10 a day, and heres what my link building strategy looked like…
- Article Marketing - At least 8 a month, sometimes more, sometimes less.
- Forum Posting - 5 a day
- Blog commenting - Varied…usually try to leave a few comments a week on likewise blogs.
- Directory submissions - Maybe around 2 or 3 a day on average.
- Social Bookmarking - Just recently started and I try to bookmark every post I make on both blogs.
That was the jest of my link building strategy and for the most part it has been pretty successful. My main website Make Money From Home, according to Yahoo Site Explorer has 1335 back links and this blog has 792. PR for both was 0, zero, zilch…:(

In effort to increase PR and back links, I am going to completely change my link building strategy and be more aggressive in getting back links. I will be keeping you up to date with my progress but will not disclose my new link building strategy until I see if it is going to work or not. If it does (and I think it will) at that point I will document my new link building strategy.
Until then….stay tuned.
