If you have ever submitted your website to the thousands of website directories that there are online, you know as well as I do how tedious a process this can be. Obviously you can’t submit your website to every website directory there is in one day, there is just too many. So what I have done in the past is taken a list and submitted to just a handful of directories a day off of that list, hoping that over time it will be worth the efforts I have put in to it.
Let me back track a minute and explain WHY people submit their websites to the website directories…
When I submit my website to a directory and it gets approved, I have one more back link out there pointing to my website. The theory is, more back links equals more traffic from the search engines. So website A has 10,000 back links and website B has 5,000. Since website A has more back links it is considered a higher authority website, thus receiving more traffic from the search engines. So the more website directories you submit to, the more back links you will get, and the more traffic you will receive.
Submitting your website to all the directories though is quite a chore. Not only is it a boring and tedious process, but many times it is difficult to distinguish between free submission sites and paid sites. Often you will find that after you go to all the trouble of entering in the required information in the subsequent fields, that they then want a donation or at least a reciprocal link. And this happens to me more times than not.
Another problem I have is with the list. First, good luck finding an up to date list that you WONT have to pay for in some form or other. Second, have you seen what a list of a thousand websites looks like? Lets just say that it is very easy to accidentally submit your site to the same place or even lose the spot where you last submitted. Pardon my French but its a big pain in the ass!
